The most prominent sight in a room is definitely the wall. Why not take a dive into the wallpaper world, and give your room a pop of colour or pattern?

Before deciding on the type of wallpaper for your room, first find out what is available in the market. We have done some homework for you, and here are 3 tips to know about wallpapers:

Lining Paper

Lining paper is not technically a wallpaper as it does not have a printed or decorative finish. Home owners usually apply them to the bare walls before painting or papering with their actual decorative wallpaper. This is so, to cover any imperfections on the surface before painting it over. You could say that it is more like a base/ primer instead of a wallpaper.

Traditional Wallpaper

This is one of the most popular types of wallpapers and come in either single (simplex) or double (duplex) layered. The wallpapers consist mainly of cellulose, that let your walls ‘breathe’. These are somehow the most affordable and accessible, and can be easily found in any wallpaper store. There is one disadvantage about these wallpapers – the colours tend to fade away in the sun, and they are not washable. This type of wallpaper works better in your bedroom where there would be less sunlight – if you remember to keep your blinds or curtain liners shut most of the time.

Vinyl Wallpaper

Vinyl wallpaper is another popular choice because they are washable, light-resistant, relatively affordable and extremely durable! This makes it the most ideal type of wallpaper for kitchens, dining rooms and bathrooms. They should be able to last longer than traditional wallpapers.

Vinyl wallpapers also come in a variety of colours, textures and patterns. They mainly consist of a backing layer, paper or fibre, and a plastic upper coating.

Another important point to look out for is whether they are eco-friendly. This is advisable for home-owners with young children, as such wallpaper accumulate less dust!

Now that we have done a wallpaper 101 for you, we hope you find the perfect one for your home!
