There is a new playground exhibition in town, and it is one for the young, and young at heart! Held at the National Museum of Singapore, the exhibition by HDB and the National Heritage Board serves up a slice of nostalgia, a peek into the future, and many Instagrammable moments. In short, it is loads of fun and definitely worth a visit.
A massive contraption with dangling streamers catches your eye the moment you step into the museum. Created by French artist Matali Crasset, this installation envisions a play space that amalgamates nature and man-made creations. It mimics a toddler’s playpen, and the adults have lots of fun twisting the central pole to transform it into a colourful mobile.
The first exhibit showcases the first generation of playgrounds in Singapore. Geek out over the nitty-gritty of HDB playground history, and snap an Insta-worthy photo along the gorgeous mirrored hallway.
The next section is all about the favourite themed playgrounds of our childhood, and the tie that binds them is mosaic tiles! Recall those carefree days, pen down a happy playground memory, and put it up for posterity. We reckon the wall makes a great background for your #OOTD photo too.
(Bonus tip: Got kids? Bring them to the Front Lawn between 26 May to 24 June for some bouncy fun at the inflatable versions of the iconic Pineapple, Pelican and Dove playgrounds!)
Playgrounds have evolved over the years to include safety features, while still offering enough thrill for little adventurers. This replica of the climbing pyramid at West Coast Park is sure to be a real hit with the kids!
Now, for the coolest part of the exhibition – unleash your creativity and construct your dream playground using the digital screens! Who knows, the playground you imagined might just become reality in the next 10, or 20 years.
